Vegetable recipes of Kashmir - Dam Aloo

Among the North Indian Recipes a few extremely delicious and popular recipe have come from the heavenly state of Kashmir. From time immemorial, Kashmir has been one of the favorite spots for tourists from all over the world. Not only they relish the lovely scenario and the house boats will all facilities, an experience unforgettable, but also they love the Indian Cuisine offered in many of the Kashmiri restaurants.

One such recipe is Kashmiri Dam Aloo made of potato and spices. The ingredients are: -

   1. Five potatoes,
   2. Two teaspoon each of deghi chilly and saunf powder, half teaspoon of garam masala,
   3. Two or three lavanga, one small elaichi,
   4. Oil and salt to taste.

Though Dam Aloo is a widely used component of Indian Food, Kashmiri preparation is different from all others. Potatoes are boiled and peeled and kept aside.  Oil is heated and potatoes are deep fried in low flame till they become red. The labang and elaichi should be fried separately and then put deghi mirch and a mug of water in it. Now put the rest of masala in the curry and boil for five minutes. Put the fried potatoes in it and close the pot with a tight lid cover and simmer for one hour but see to it that water does not dry up.

The recipe is now ready. Serve it hot with Indian Rice or flat tandoori bread depending on the diner’s choice.

Choosing exotic baby names

Among the factors you need to keep in mind while choosing names of baby are gender identity, cultural issues, popular names, ways to honor relatives and future life choices. If you haven’t picked out a name already, there are an enormous number of baby names available online, with the meaning of baby names specified in sites such as BabynamesQ where you can also check the origin of various baby names. You might be considering choosing a name from another culture, but think carefully about the meaning it has and whether it could be problematic for your child. For example, most Americans recognize “Tara” as the O’Hara house in the popular novel “Gone with the wind” but it’s one of the popular baby girl names in India. It means “Star” in the Hindi language. If you’re adopting a child from another culture, you might consider choosing a name to celebrate the baby’s original culture. You can also pay a tribute to your own ethnicity by choosing a name from the culture which you originated from. Names are also easily corrupted by the nicknames attributed by popular culture – for instance, your baby boy named Michael might be teased at school if your last name is “Jackson”. If you dislike certain popular nicknames such as Bob or Charlie then avoid naming your baby Robert or Charles because these names are inevitably shortened into the popularly used nicknames.
